Séminaire du jeudi 9 juin : PriceMinister/Rakuten

I currently hold a Data Scientist / Senior Developer position at PriceMinister/Rakuten. My main activities involve machine learning and data mining algorithms for Recommendations and Record Linkage in the context of e-commerce and marketing. I previously worked for 3 years as a Data Scientist / R&D engineer at Logilab, in particular for library catalogs and medical data in the context of Semantic Web. My projects at this position included data.bnf.fr (the open-data platform of the French National Library) and Brainomics (an open-source framework for managing medical data).
During my PhD in Computer Science in the Inria Parietal team, I developed some machine learning and data mining algorithms that take into account the spatial information of neuro-imaging (fMRI) data. I have also contributed to the early versions of the scikit-learn project. I am an ESPCI (Ecole Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de Paris) engineer specialized in physics, and I hold a Master 2 in Applied Mathematics from the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (MVA).
My main topics of interest are data-mining algorithms applied to open-data (especially cultural items), data-journalism, and more generally how data science and open-data can be jointly used.
Presentation: I will speak about the "data" in "datascience", showing (from my experience) how algorithms can/should be adapted to different fields (medical, e-commerce, cultural products), and how open data can be used as an interesting tool for data science.
